The travel arithmetic, on an island

Nuns' Island has a quirk its residents know well: anything not on the island means a bridge, and therefore a trip that doubles or triples at rush hour. For a family, taking a child to a thirty-minute lesson across the water often costs two hours of the evening. Lessons at home remove that arithmetic entirely.

One lesson a week, at a fixed time

The format that works best here is the recurring weekly lesson, booked several weeks ahead at the same time. The schedule is settled once and nobody has to think about it again for the rest of the session.

Families and retirees

Two profiles come up often in this kind of neighbourhood: children starting around seven or eight, and adults returning to an instrument after a long pause or starting fresh in retirement. Classical guitar suits both, since it asks for very little strength and a great deal of precision.

Lessons in English or French
