The lessons in detail
A long-standing bilingual neighbourhood
Verdun is one of the few Montreal neighbourhoods where French and English have lived side by side for more than a century, often on the same street and sometimes in the same family. Lessons are given in either language, and nothing stops you from switching from one week to the next, or speaking English to the child and French to the parent.
Lots of young families
The neighbourhood has drawn many young families in recent years, around Wellington Street and the residential streets running down to the river. When two children take lessons, they are given back to back in the same visit, which saves a second trip during the week.
Playing in an apartment
Verdun's plexes and apartments often have neighbours above and below. A nylon-string classical guitar stays quiet: evening practice generally bothers nobody, which is not true of a piano or a drum kit.
What to have ready
- ✓ A stable chair without armrests.
- ✓ A quiet corner, away from the television.
- ✓ A music stand.
- ✓ A nylon-string classical guitar, tuned before the lesson.
- ✓ Missing something? Mark can help you get all the required material during the lesson.
