Why learn at home

For families it is often the only workable format: no driving in the evening, no waiting room, and two children can follow each other within the same hour. For the student there is a less obvious advantage: they play on their own chair, at their own stand, in the room where they will practise tomorrow. Whatever gets corrected during the lesson gets corrected in the exact place where the problem repeats itself.

What to have ready

• ✓ A stable chair without armrests, at normal height.
• ✓ A quiet corner, out of the way and with no television on.
• ✓ A music stand, or failing that a table.
• ✓ A nylon-string classical guitar in the right size for the student.
• ✓ A footstool or guitar support. If you do not have one yet, write to me before the first lesson.

The first lesson

The first lesson sets the foundation: an honest assessment of the current level, body and hand position, tuning, choosing a first piece and setting up a daily practice plan. For a child, the last part of the lesson happens with the parent, so that the week's work is clear to everyone.

Lengths and formats

Sessions of 30, 45 or 60 minutes. A single trial lesson, or a recurring weekly lesson up to twelve weeks. Payment by Interac e-Transfer or cash.
