An area built for families

The Town of Mount Royal was laid out as a garden city and it has stayed a neighbourhood of single-family homes and families. In that setting, lessons at home allow the single most useful thing for a child's progress: the teacher sees the exact spot where the student practises the rest of the week, and corrects what happens there, from the height of the chair to the light on the music.

Several children, the same hour

When two children in the house are learning, the lessons follow each other within one visit. That is far simpler to organise than a round trip per child, and the rivalry between siblings usually does more for daily practice than any parental reminder.

The parent's role

For a young child, having a parent present for the first few weeks helps a great deal, especially with tuning and with setting up the practice routine. The last part of the lesson happens with the parent, so that the week's work is clear to everyone.
